Reflections at the End of Summer — Bailey 600L Slim Jim Tank

Nothing marks the end of summer quite like the photo I snapped the other morning, a bucket I'd left outside overnight, now full to the brim after a decent downpour.

It's a simple reminder of two things:

  1. Summer really is slipping away, and
  2. Collecting rainwater doesn't need to be complicated.

The new Bailey 600-litre Slim Jim tank proves that point nicely. It comes with everything you need to hook straight into a nearby downpipe. Not quite as effortless as leaving a bucket out in the rain, but honestly, it's not far off.

Over the past few weeks, I've been working in the garden and finally hit the bottom of the Slim Jim that I have tucked behind the shed.

As much as we all enjoy a long, hot summer, we pay for it when the tank runs dry, especially if you're trying to keep the veggie patch alive.

Now that autumn's here, and winter isn't far behind, it's easy to forget how valuable that stored water becomes. The garden doesn't stop needing it just because the weather cools down. And come next summer, we'll be right back to wishing we had a bit more tucked away.

So I'm turning my attention to finding another spot around the place for an extra tank. Because as sure as winter will arrive, summer will return, and when it does, I'll be glad I planned ahead.

A Few End-of-Summer Reflections

As the seasons shift, it's a good time to think about how we use water around the home. A small tank won't change the world, but it does make a difference — to the garden, to your water bill, and to how resilient your home is through dry spells. And the truth is, once you've got one tank, you start spotting all sorts of places where another one could fit.

Rainwater harvesting doesn't need to be complicated or expensive. Sometimes it starts with something as simple as noticing a full bucket after a storm — and realising how easy it is to capture what nature gives us for free.

Especially with the Bailey 600-litre Slim Jim tank, you can pop along to your Mitre 10 store, slip it into the back of your truck or your SUV, and drive home. Take a look at how quickly it slides into the car.
